    CARICOM, Guyana -- Jan. 13, 2011-- Arising from consultations held in Kingston, Jamaica, January 5-7, the Government of Haiti and representatives of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) agreed on several key project proposals designed to strengthen Haiti’s institutional and technical capacity in three priority areas: housing and settlement development; physical and environmental planning; and infrastructure development and coordination.

    Feb. 16, 2010 -- The cost of rebuilding homes, schools, roads and other infrastructure could soar to nearly $14 billion, according to a new study by economists at the Inter-American Development Bank.

    Washington -- Jan. 27, 2010 --  The World Bank, supported by the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR), announced today that it has mobilized scientists and technical experts around the world to help assess the impacts of the earthquake in Haiti.

    20 Jan. 2010 - The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has employed almost 400 Haitians to give the local economy a boost and swiftly deliver urgently-needed humanitarian aid following the catastrophic earthquake which struck the Caribbean country last week.

    On January 18, 2010, in Santo Domingo, the President of the Republic of Haiti, Mr. René Preval, the President of the Dominican Republic, Mr. Leonel Fernández Reyna, met with representatives from CARICOM; OAS, Canada, Spain, United States, Brazil, the United Nations Stabilization Mission (MINUSTAH) in Haiti, the European Union and the World Bank, to examine the best manner to address this dramatic situation.


    Kingston -- Jan. 16, 2010 -- An emergency centre has been established at the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM), 2-4 Haining Road, New Kingston, to coordinate relief assistance generated locally for Haiti.

    CARICOM Secretariat, Guyana -- Jan. 16, 2010 --  Caribbean Community (CARICOM) countries have kicked into high gear their support towards Haiti in the aftermath of the powerful earthquake which hit the French Speaking CARICOM country on Tuesday January 12, 2010.
